Why care about VoIP?

Companies embrace VoIP or Voice-over-IP service providers because, frankly, it’s usually less expensive.  For business, telecommunications has historically been a significant expense – particularly with traditional calling plans, up-front equipment costs and ongoing maintenance.

VoIP defined

Simply put, VoIP stands for Voiceover Internet Protocol and is a group of technologies that supports the delivery of voice communications and data over networks, such as the public Internet.

How VoIP relates to phones

A hosted PBX phone is built on VoIP technology and means that your phone system is managed on the cloud, as opposed to a legacy phone system which is managed on a physical CPU or the “brains” of the system located on your premises.  It also allows your provider to manage your system, and provide software and feature upgrades without any effort on your part.

In addition to cost reduction, VoIP technology supports companies with multiple locations, employees who telecommute and those who travel.  VoIP technology can be used for business phones, mobile phones, desktops, laptops, and ipad’s/tablet devices.  This enhances employee collaboration, unified communications and general efficiency and productivity.
