Call Waiting informs you on a busy line that there is another incoming call. 

You are then able to put the first call on hold to answer the second call, and then switch between the two calls by pressing switchhook or flash.

Call Waiting with Caller ID
Call Waiting with Caller ID allows you to receive notification of a new caller ID when a call is currently in progress.
